Many French wine guides publish their notes every year, the most well known in France is the Guide Hachette which has a definite impact on sales for affordable wines. A wine receiving a special selection will be in great demand, and sales will be brisk at the property, in wine shops or in supermarkets. The other important guides have mainly an impact with wine enthusiasts, the guide from the Revue du Vin de France made a controversial statement when it demoted Château Mouton Rothschild from 3 stars (out of 3) to 2.
